Miss Arkansas Alyse Eady on Rachel Maddow – She’s a Ventriloquist! She Yodels! She CLOGS!

You may not readily remember the name Alyse Eady.  You may not readily be able to identify Miss Eady as the First Runner Up in the 2011 Miss American Pageant held last month in Las Vegas, when she was spotted doing some iphone gambling in on of the closest casinos.

But if someone were to say to you, “the girl who performed as a yodeling ventriloquist,” most likely you or someone currently in the room with you will know who Alyse Eady is. Very few who saw her perform on stage are likely to forget her.  I know I won’t.

You may not be surprised to learn that Alyse Eady was the only ventriloquist in the entire pageant.  In fact, she had the entire “Variety Act” corner all to herself.  And despite losing the crown, Alyse and her yodeling puppets have garnered far more media traction than any of the other toe-tappers, piano players or Broadway voclaists who competed against her. Watching her last week on The Rachel Maddow Show, it’s easy to see why.  It’s impossible to not like this woman!  She’s sweet, genuine, and true to the things she enjoys, even if one of those things is yodeling ventriloquism (where else in the year 2011 are you going to hear a shout out to Shari Lewis and Lampchop?).

She even managed to get Rachel to admit feeling slightly ashamed about being “snarky and cynical about beauty pageants.”

Take a look at the clip below and tell me you don’t wish a recount was being considered.

That clip with Alyse and Rachel Maddow was great! I loved how Rachel was just so in awe of her talent. I missed her performance in Miss America – I think I fell asleep during the talent – but I remember wishing she had won.
    Thanks for sharing!

Could this be the start of a ventriloquist revival… Charley McCarty was HUGE in radio… which makes me always wonder if people imagined that the lips didn’t move.
